Hauskolloquium: The potential of biomolecular markers in studying ancient organics [Vortrag auf Englisch]

Datum 13.02.2020
Uhrzeit 10:30 - 12:00 Uhr

The analysis of organic residues recovered from archaeological artefacts is a well-established technique spanning decades of methodical research and successfully identifying a wide range of food and non-food products. The versatility of this technique means that it can be used to answer a myriad of archaeological questions targeting adhesive technology, palaeodiet, culinary technology and preferences, vessel and lithic tools function, trade and exchange to mention a few. This paper shall first look back at what has been achieved in previous years, highlighting milestones in the methodological development of organic residue analysis as well as key breakthroughs in archaeological research identified through the application of this technique. We then look at recent developments and what the near future of this field of research is likely to hold.
